The Thanksgiving movie on Netflix

Holidate (2020)

John Whitesell directed this Netflix romantic comedy, written by Tiffany Paulsen and released on October 28, 2020. Emma Roberts plays Sloane, who is tired of her family’s questions about her love life, and Luke Bracey plays Jackson, an Australian who hates going to holiday events alone. They agree to be each other’s platonic date for every holiday for a year, from New Year’s Eve through Halloween and Thanksgiving, and the arrangement gets complicated. Thanksgiving is the turning point: it is the holiday where Jackson tells Sloane how he feels and the two of them fight. Kristin Chenoweth plays Sloane’s aunt.

Master of None: “Thanksgiving” (2017)

Season 2, Episode 8 tells its story through a series of Thanksgiving dinners from the 1990s to the present. Denise (Lena Waithe) and her childhood friend Dev (Aziz Ansari) spend the holiday with her family as she comes to terms with her sexuality and comes out to her mother, played by Angela Bassett. Melina Matsoukas directed the episode, released on May 12, 2017, and Waithe and Ansari won the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for it. Waithe became the first African-American woman to win in that category.

Seinfeld: “The Mom & Pop Store” (1994)

This Season 6 episode first aired on November 17, 1994. Jerry is not sure whether he has been invited to a Thanksgiving Eve party thrown by his dentist, Tim Whatley, played by Bryan Cranston in his first appearance in the role. Elaine wins her boss a spot holding a balloon in the Thanksgiving Day parade, Kramer tries to save a struggling shoe repair shop, and George wants to know whether his new car once belonged to Jon Voight.

Big Mouth: “Thanksgiving” (2021)

The fifth episode of Big Mouth’s fifth season arrived with the rest of the season on November 5, 2021. Andrew (John Mulaney) dreads his father’s family tradition of insulting the turkey as it cooks, Jessi spends the holiday with her separated parents, and Missy tries to impress visiting cousins voiced by Quinta Brunson and Lena Waithe. Brandon Kyle Goodman wrote the episode. The series is an adult animated comedy.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine: “Two Turkeys” (2017)

Season 5, Episode 7 first aired on November 21, 2017. Jake (Andy Samberg) and Amy (Melissa Fumero) try to get their parents to bond over Thanksgiving dinner, and their first holiday together as a family does not go to plan. Netflix in the US carries seasons 5 to 8 of the show, so this is the Thanksgiving episode you can watch there; the earlier ones sit in seasons that were not on Netflix US when we checked.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: “Kimmy Finds Her Mom!” (2016)

The Season 2 finale, released on April 15, 2016, and written by Tina Fey and Sam Means, sends Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) on a Thanksgiving road trip to Florida to reunite with her mother (Lisa Kudrow), who now lives for roller coasters. Back in New York, Jacqueline (Jane Krakowski) spends Thanksgiving dinner with her boyfriend Russ’s family, which owns a Washington football team, and confronts them over its name.

Fuller House: “A Fuller Thanksgiving” (2016)

Released on December 9, 2016, with the rest of Season 2, this episode brings back Bob Saget, John Stamos, Dave Coulier and Lori Loughlin from the original Full House. DJ (Candace Cameron Bure) tries to run the perfect Thanksgiving with 23 family members under one roof, and she, Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and Kimmy (Andrea Barber) team up to keep everyone on her schedule.

A Man on the Inside: “Thanksgiving Break” (2025)

Michael Schur’s comedy released its second season on November 20, 2025. In Episode 5, Charles (Ted Danson) hosts Thanksgiving dinner at his home, his first big holiday since starting a relationship with Mona (Mary Steenburgen). His daughter Emily (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) agonizes over whether to bake the pecan pie her late mother always made, and Mona invites Charles’s boss, Julie (Lilah Richcreek Estrada), who brings the mother she has been estranged from. Tensions rise during the traditional round of giving thanks at the table.

Gossip Girl: “The Treasure of Serena Madre” (2009)

The Upper East Side drama returned to Thanksgiving almost every season, and this Season 3 episode, first aired on November 30, 2009, is the one Netflix singles out in its guide to Thanksgiving TV episodes. Orange Is the New Black: “F*cksgiving” (2013)

Season 1, Episode 9, released with the rest of the first season on July 11, 2013, is set on Thanksgiving at Litchfield Penitentiary. A dance at Taystee’s release party gets Piper (Taylor Schilling) and Alex (Laura Prepon) reported, and Piper ends up in solitary on the holiday. Michael Trim directed, and Sian Heder wrote the episode.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: “Chapter Seven: Feast of Feasts” (2018)

Part 1 of the Netflix series was released on October 26, 2018. In Chapter Seven, with Thanksgiving coming up, the Spellmans learn they have been selected for the Feast of Feasts, one of their coven’s holiest holidays, in which one witch is chosen to be eaten by the others. Kiernan Shipka plays Sabrina, with Miranda Otto and Lucy Davis as her aunts. It is the pick here for viewers who want horror with their holiday.

Ugly Delicious: “Home Cooking” (2018)

David Chang’s food documentary series released its first season on February 23, 2018. In the third episode, Chang and Peter Meehan prepare a Thanksgiving dinner for the Chang family, with his mother handling the Korean dishes, while other chefs talk about the food they grew up on.

Nailed It! Holiday!: “It’s a Family A-fail” (2018)

The holiday edition of the baking competition, hosted by Nicole Byer with chocolatier Jacques Torres as judge, ran 7 episodes in its first season. In Episode 4, each amateur baker brings a relative into the kitchen, and the final challenge is a giant turkey cake, with $10,000 for the winner.
