Quick answer: If you loved Stranger Things, start with Dark on Netflix for the time-travel mystery, From on Netflix (Seasons 1 to 3, added October 19, 2026) for the small-town horror, or Paper Girls on Prime Video for the bikes, walkie-talkies and kids-against-the-unknown feel. Yellowjackets is the timely pick: its final season starts November 20 on Paramount+.
Stranger Things is finished, all five seasons, and that leaves a gap. What made it work was not only the 1980s nostalgia. It was a group of friends who trust each other, a town hiding something, a monster that is scary but never the whole point, and adults who slowly realize the kids were right. (If you want to revisit the original first, see why Stranger Things still rules pop culture and where the cast is now.) The shows below each hit at least two of those notes. We have split them by what you liked most, and every pick says where it streams in the US right now.
If You Want the Mystery and the Mythology
1. Dark (Netflix)
Seasons: 3 (26 episodes) · Complete
The comparison everyone makes, and for good reason. A boy goes missing in the small German town of Winden, a cave in the woods turns out to connect different decades, and four families discover their histories are tangled in ways nobody could guess. Dark is more serious than Stranger Things and much more complicated, so it rewards close attention and maybe a family-tree diagram. It is also one of the few mystery shows that planned its ending from the start and actually delivers it. Watch it in German with subtitles if you can; the English dub is fine but loses some of the performances.
2. 3 Body Problem (Netflix)
Seasons: 1 (8 episodes) · Season 2 in the works, no date yet
From the creators of Game of Thrones and based on Liu Cixin’s novels, this follows a group of young Oxford-trained scientists who stumble onto a secret that goes back to China in the 1960s and reaches far beyond Earth. It has the same “something is coming and only a few people know” tension as Stranger Things, with a bigger budget and grown-up leads. Season 1 tells a complete first chapter, so it is safe to start now.
3. Archive 81 (Netflix)
Seasons: 1 (8 episodes) · Cancelled
A film archivist is hired to restore damaged videotapes from a 1990s apartment fire and finds himself pulled into the story of the woman who filmed them, and a cult that may still be around. The found-footage sections give it the same retro, analog texture Stranger Things gets from its cassette tapes and CRT TVs. It was cancelled after one season and ends on a cliffhanger, so go in knowing that.
If You Want Small-Town Horror
4. From (Netflix, Seasons 1 to 3; MGM+ for Season 4)
Seasons: 4 so far · Season 5 will be the last
A family on a road trip takes a detour and ends up in a town nobody can leave. Every road loops back, and when the sun goes down, things that look almost human come out of the woods. Harold Perrineau leads a strong cast as the town’s reluctant sheriff. From is darker and more violent than Stranger Things, but it scratches the same itch: a community stuck with a supernatural threat, trying to work out the rules before it is too late. Seasons 1 to 3 arrived on Netflix in the US on October 19, 2026, and it is already near the top of the Netflix shows everyone is bingeing. Season 4 is only on MGM+ for now.
5. The Haunting of Hill House (Netflix)
Seasons: 1 (10 episodes) · Complete limited series
Mike Flanagan’s ghost story jumps between the summer the Crain children spent in a haunted mansion and their troubled lives as adults decades later. Like Stranger Things, it is really about family and what happens to kids who saw something no one believed. It is genuinely frightening, so it is better for older teens and adults than for younger Stranger Things fans. If it leaves you wanting more scares, try our scary movies on Hulu.
6. Yellowjackets (Paramount+)
Seasons: 3 so far · Final season premieres November 20, 2026
In 1996 a high school girls’ soccer team survives a plane crash in the wilderness and spends 19 months waiting for rescue. Twenty-five years later, the survivors are still keeping secrets about what they did out there. The 1990s setting and soundtrack do for this show what the 1980s did for Stranger Things. It is very much for adults. Seasons 1 and 2 are on any Paramount+ plan; Season 3 and the new final season need the Premium plan.
If You Want Kids on an Adventure
7. Paper Girls (Prime Video)
Seasons: 1 (8 episodes) · Cancelled
Four 12-year-old girls are out on their paper route the morning after Halloween in 1988 when they get caught in a war between time travelers and land in 2019, where they meet their adult selves. Based on the comic by Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang, it is the closest match on this list for the bikes-and-walkie-talkies feel. It was cancelled after one season, but the first season tells a satisfying story.
8. Locke & Key (Netflix)
Seasons: 3 · Complete
After their father is murdered, the three Locke siblings move to his family home in Massachusetts and find magical keys that open doors to anywhere, into their own minds, and to a demon who wants the keys for herself. It is lighter and more family-friendly than most shows here, which makes it a good pick if you are watching with younger teens.
9. The Umbrella Academy (Netflix)
Seasons: 4 · Complete
Seven adopted siblings with strange powers, raised by a cold billionaire, reunite as adults after his death and learn the world is about to end. The show bounces between timelines, including a memorable season set in the 1960s, and mixes action with a lot of dark humor. If your favorite part of Stranger Things was Eleven and the idea of kids raised as experiments, start here.
10. Wednesday (Netflix)
Seasons: 2 · Season 3 confirmed
Wednesday Addams is sent to Nevermore Academy, a boarding school for outcasts, and ends up investigating a string of murders and a monster in the woods. It is more comedy than horror, and it shares something real with Stranger Things beyond the monster: Netflix cast it around a young lead who carries the whole show, and Jenna Ortega does exactly that.
