“Like a high production value episode of Law & Order, except these utterly charmless detectives can't resolve ONE case in an ENTIRE season. I don't think I have the patience for another thirteen episodes of this plodding thing, where even the most "shocking" twists can barely hold interest. It might work if there were a single character worth investing in, but alas. High on drama yet low on entertainment.”
“Convincing Forrest that EH totally works as a prequel to the Warhammer 40K universe: "Why would you design a ship like that?!" Why wouldn't you want your state-of-the-art spacecraft to be a gorgeous, non-Euclidean art deco death trap?”
“This movie can't seem to decide if it's trying to be funny, or tense and unsettling, or a commentary on revenge, and as such it succeeds at none of these things. Strange enough to not be completely uninteresting, but mediocre on the whole.”
“A modern classic. It's not just the unrelenting claustrophobic terror, which is executed perfectly, but the realistic relationships between this all-female group that make it so outstanding. Accept no substitute for the haunting and poetic uncut ending.”
“I'm not sure what's more surprising, how much I actually care about these characters or how downright frightening their plight is. Well-crafted, suspenseful, and original, made all the more impressive by the minimalist daylight setting.”
“I knew Roger's facade of caring about Liz was just that. She's barely out of his sight before he's actively railing against measures that could help her get better and ranting about how her policies are stupid and her illness is her own fault.”
“I love the fantastic style and setting, and as a whole the film really works. Deserves much commendation for being the first Disney princess movie to actually focus on a realistic mother-daughter relationship. It's been a long time coming.”
“More silly and slapstick than grand and moving, but still an adorable and entertaining addition to the Tangled story. Absolutely wonderful to see all the characters again, however briefly.”
“Near perfect. Though the Rapunzel story has always been special to me, I was surprised to find myself placing a modern Disney princess movie in my Top 5 for the genre, in the company of beloved childhood favorites like Aladdin.”
So well-written and touching, not to mention amusing, every character unique and interesting. Flynn, Punzie, Maximus, they're just top of the line. A beautiful love story. My one complaint: while the CGI is lovely for the format, it would have elevated things even further if they'd gone with the same enchanting hand-drawn style of The Princess and the Frog.
“ELIZABETH!!! I've been trying to be understanding with Laura, but I love Liz too much for this to stand. Great scream from Carolyn though. Even if her reasons are faulty, for once she's directing that viciousness at someone who deserves it.”
“Ooh. Josette ghost vision. And a second appearance from my favorite spooky caretaker! Sweet. Maybe you'll become a fine paranormal investigator after all, Frank.”
“*SHUDDER* D: This is the first episode of DS that's been legitimately frightening. I'm already so anxious for Liz, and she's usually such a pillar of strength that seeing her frail and incoherent is distressing enough, then to add in THAT. GAH!”
But it just doesn't have that certain spark for me. The emotional content simply doesn't speak to me on a personal level, and no character ever quite manages to get close to my heart (if anything, they're more annoying on the whole than is entirely justifiable).
